Is there a difference between a Nuclear Stress Test and a Stress Echo?

I had a Nuclear stress Test with Dobutamine that showed abnormal myocardial perfusion images in 2 areas. The study was suboptimal, possibly soft tissue attenuation. Now I am scheduled for a Dobutamine Echo. What is the difference? Thanks…

As the name implies, a Nuclear stress test uses a slightly radioactive substance to see how well your heart is getting blood. A special camera is used to take the images.

A dobutamine echo uses a drug (dobutamine) to make your heart THINK it’s working heard. An echocardiogram is then taken to see how well your heart is pumping.

The tests are very similar, but the stress echo is usually a bit more accurate (and harder to do).

Best of luck
