How accurate is a stress test when my heart rate didn’t go very high?
I had chest pain while running through an airport terminal. My heart was racing at about 160 bpm. My doctor ordered a stress test but they stopped it at 135 bpm. Can I trust the accuracy of the normal results? Shouldn’t they have let my pulse get faster than that? I was hardly winded at all when they stopped me.
Stopping at 135 is the correct thing to do. They could see what they needed to see at that rate.
You should ask them to give you a printout of the stress test. If done at a clinic, just go in with your id and they will print it out for you. It will give you information that you can use when you talk more with your MD. Age, weight, heart history, all have to be taken into consideration in this matter.
If you were hardly winded, that was a good sign.
