Social Anxiety #1: Introduction

Hey everyone, my name is Mark. I’m 27 years old, from the UK and I have social phobia otherwise known as Social Anxiety Disorder. SAD is a fear of social situations and centres around the paranoid belief that people are being judgemental or overly critical of us. This makes the sufferer hermit like and stops them from living a normal happy lifestyle because they are constantly afraid that their actions may in some way embarrass them or cause them severe humiliation.

Social Phobia, aka ‘Social Anxiety’ effects people in vastly different ways. Some people with SAD may have no problem in certain social instances where others would be completely petrified.
Simply put, not all cases of SAD are the same.

    Very nice video man.
I’ve had SAD myself most of my life (i’m 33 now) but it really went out of control when I was about 24. Since then I’ve been working out my own solutions and I’ve gotten to a point where I think I’m starting to get back my life. I’m going to post videos on my own theories to cope with SAD. English is not my first language so it could take a bit though.

my tension is always on my eyes, either it got too big and scary, that makes me blink unnaturally or I will try to make it look nature but overdoing it, so it ended up looking sleepy, the worst thing is that i lost all my concentration when I talk to people or when I work, I am always worry people would look at me and notice my eyes.

cool, I strongly believe that this will help you to, I had a violent childhood and suffered from several phobias at once. Practising Yoga Nidra helped me a lot and now I am a practising hypnotherapist helping others. I can speak in front of groups, be out and about and feel free and relaxed in almost all situations. Don’t think that this is a permanent condition, it certainly can be treated. The platform to act from is deep inner peace and self acceptance

one of the best things to do is learning deep relaxation before forth coming events, and the best relaxation technique to do so is Yoga Nidra, it helps with all sorts of nervousness, fear and stress related problems by way of balancing and harmonising both brain hemispheres as well as relaxing the body perfectly. Its always available on ebay, look for the title
“Yoga Nidra total relaxation no more tension”

I can somewhat relate with the hair dresser incident, except for me, it’s like I have trouble talking in general. My words will feel like they drop the floor and it will take a great deal of effort to release and express my voice. It’s bizzar, and it’s really annoying when it happens! It’s probably a conspiracy!

Just a note to thank you for posting this and to remind you that you’re not alone. I’m 31 years old and have suffered from SAD for most of my life. It’s kept me out of work for a number of years and has really limited my life in other ways. I haven’t tried medication and really don’t want to, but I’ve been seeing a social worker for several months now and he seems to be helping. It takes time. Hang in there!

I have SA pretty bad. I have a few close friends that I do pretty well around, but I find I can only be myself around my immediate family. It is very comforting seeing other people on youtube experiencing the same thing as myself.

Anyone have any proven methods or treatment for this? :/
