    if you’re avoiding …
if you’re avoiding your best friend, who obviously likes you and does not think you’re boring but rather enjoys your company which is why they’re your friend in the first place, then i think you may be more than just shy.

blushing is the main problem for me.

    Hey, I was thinking …
Hey, I was thinking about this too. I tend to think that it doesn’t necessarily has to be the same thing. If you keep on avoiding some situations because f.ex. being shy, you are getting so used to it that you do this every time. But social phobia is more about the biological = physical issues - like extreme nervousness, loss of breath and so one. What do you think?

Eating alone is even more awkward, though.

I just hate any situation where people are judging/evaluating/criticizing me. I’m also afraid of eating with others, many times.

    I think I have that …
I think I have that. Like, when Im walking past someone on the street i get nervous, want to look the other direction.

  10. Silversonic11 Says:

    Among many things. …
Among many things. What I hate most about myself is that if I’m with anyone, be it a stranger or my best friend for say walking down a street, I don’t want to appear as boring and lack social skills (i.e silences) so I try my hardest to keep the conversation going…and when I can I go “Gotta go this way now” and walk down some street I’ve never been down before and find my own way home. I try my best to avoid interaction cause I think I’m boring. I’m not sure if that’s shyness or social phobia.

  11. AnotherWhoHitTheDust Says:

    Hey, the more I …
Hey, the more I read the more I see that there is a huge mess about it. Whole psychology is a mess. I mean - just look in how many different things people see the same symptoms.

Ones say that actually there is no such a thing as a healthy person standard. There is only lack of visible and/or disturbing abnormalities :)

  12. Ackreti Says:

    “Maybe I will …
“Maybe I will understand this one day. I read some comments and their content relates mostly to shyness”

I know. There is many people on internet who are shy and think they have social phobia, even though they don’t. Plus social phobia can have many levels … from very serious illness, to just low level phobia. Then some people have it only for few months, others for years.

  13. AnotherWhoHitTheDust Says:

    Maybe I will …
Maybe I will understand this one day. I read some comments and their content relates mostly to shyness. I mean - that is the impression.

  15. Ackreti Says:

    Basicly if you give …
Basicly if you give some presentation to other people and you say to yourself: “Ok, this isnt my best day”, or you say to yourself “Well lets do this, I hope I wont look like an idiot.” = so this is just shyness.

On other hand if you have phobia you must put like 90% of your energy to not running away.

  16. Ackreti Says:

    Border between …
Border between shyness and social phobia is huge.

Look at what rioo108 posted below. She feels like in jail, which people with social phobia in fact are. People with phobia know their fear is unnecessary, but their brain is sending an impulses of fear from social interaction with strangers. Also people around you exhaust you (even though they dont even talk to you), you in fact feel pressure. And more poeple you dont know around you, the more pressure you feel.

  17. capnvideo2006 Says:

I dont think it is …
I dont think it is all about shyness it is more about FEAR…..fear of failure in front of people……its a low self esteem thing. It seems like shyness and sorta looks like it…….but its more about failure and not being excepted.

I do not get were is the border between shyness and social phobia?

  19. joe6panther6 Says:

    I always drink …
I always drink before heading to a club or bar. But my social phobia has become so bad I don’t even go out much, period. My head is so screwed up it will either get worse or just magically get better some day. That’s how I see it.

  20. rioo108 Says:

    The presentations …
The presentations aren’t so bad, what terrifies me more than anything is auckward silence when ppl r around..
if ppl r talking amongst themshelves about other things n i kno its not about me than in my mind im full relaxed.. when i don’t know wht they r talking about.. thats when the phobia kicks in.

  21. rioo108 Says:

    this Social …
this Social disorder drives me crazy, everytime i go anywhere ppl r staring at me.. or talking amongst themshelves about me, cant even go walk outside without being so self concious and that is taking my freedom away.. i’ev less freedom than a man in jail, n its all becoz the mind is sumhow designed to put me in this jail

  22. BigTony1290 Says:

    this is sooooo …
this is sooooo crazy. so many of these situations sound like mine. i seriously thought i was alone because not many people talk about it. besides that, everyone else that i am around seems to be perfectly normal so sometimes i just feel like im insane.

I like how he made vomitting a point. I have had some issues with exactly that. I have had SA for 5 years and the most recent flare was the vomitting thing. This video brings up some great points.

  25. sexxxyfemme Says:

    I love the examples …
I love the examples you give and yea, Walmart is getting a lot of free press! lol! Yea I’ve been dealing with SA for 3 years and its time I face it, at least for the New Year! I need to get out of my head and go out in the real world and start doing something with my life. I need to build up my self esteem and be more confident and ertive and believe in myself. People will look, have their opinions about me but at the end of the day screw what they think or see I know I rock!

    Thanks! :)
