I agree with her on …
I agree with her on a lot of points. There were plenty of teachers through out middle school and high school who openly mocked me in front of the class for the way I behaved in and out of the class, as if they are pressuring me to “fit in”. It’s our F#&$ing choice how we want to behave, as long as it doesn’t harm others.

But if you’re around people who are cheery, positive, and outgoing, their “feelings” will get hurt and they will retaliate back at you if you are around them.

    …there is nothing …
…there is nothing wrong with choosing not to socialize or “fit in”. Because of the choices I made, and because chose not to fit in, I was always treated differently, in other words treated like I didn’t belong. Whether other students made direct or indirect comments or expressions, I felt like there was something I did wrong; so throughout high school, I was always blaming myself.

But as I look back, there was not a thing wrong with me, or with other students. I just wanted respect.

    Social anxiety is a …
Social anxiety is a result of knowing one must endure having to attend school for four years, but not just any school. High School is the most difficult years of any student, regardless of how social you are. Every day felt as though I was losing control. Junior & Senior year were extremely difficult. Reputation wasn’t my goal.

My advice, if your kids are having a very difficult time in high school, introduce home schooling. Don’t let their anger build up, trust me on this one!

i change friends every year because im always trying to find someone i can fit in with but i cant stick with my old friends for very long. sometimes i just pretend to be friends in a group so i won’t feel lonely until i find someone new to hang out with. i have a few friends that i’ve managed to stay friends with for more than 3 years and one lifelong friend, but i’m not in contact with them as much as i used to be.

I just finished my first year of high school and before high school I have never felt anxious before but this year, I have become so anxious. My anxiety has really been dictating how I act in school. I barely socialize, I don’t eat in school, and I avoid presentations.
I had my first anxiety attack in May, when we had to play in front of our teacher in band for final exams.
After that my anxiety really started to get worse.
It’s nice to know I’m not alone.

I’m 36 now, and i feel every day I’m blessed to face my ’shynesses’ head on, and I’m so much happier that i’ve made progress. I do believe I’ve come far to relax with crowds around me. There are days when it’s not strong, there are days when it is strong, but I’m taking it day by day, step by step. Thank you xabovetheclouds for sharing your life with us. It means so much to me
