Can depression lead to a social phobia and/or anxiety disorder?
I have always been a shy person, but lately I have been feeling even more uncomfortable around people; in some cases, good friends or family that I haven’t seen in a while. I recently took one of those online depression tests, and it said I could have clinical depression. My question is, can depression lead to some form of social anxiety disorder?
They are two separate diagnoses but they can be diagnosed at the same time, meds are different. I am on Klonopin for anxiety and Wellbutrin and celexa for depression plus lithium for mood swings.

Depression can definitely lead to social phobia and depression itself is a anxiety disorder in a way. However its important to know that depression is not a change of emotions over a specific event but its a chronic disorder that can lead to social phobia. Clinical depression can be treated and it must be taken care of as soon as possible before it brings any dramatic change to your life. I suggest that you use natural ways like exercise and Yoga to treat your depression before consulting any psychiatrist. There is a website on my source box that has all the information related to Clinical depression and i really found it useful, it also has articles to treat depression naturally. I hope you will find it useful. I strongly suggest that you do not ignore this matter and take care of it as soon as possible in the best possible way before it gets too late

yes it could. i went through the same problem, you should seek professional help before it gets really worse, believe me you don’t want this to happen..and talk to someone close it helps a lot. i know that when there are people around you, u feel like they are watching and judging your every move but they are not.. don’t hesitate to ask for help..
good luck

An on-line test cant determine anything. Talk to your doctor about the right treatment for all your symptoms, if its therapy or medication or a combination of both, he will tell you whats right for you.

depression and anxiety often go hand in hand… i dont know which one precedes the other… shyness plus stress plus depression can definitely lead to something more serious, like social anxiety. i suffered from depression/anxiety for many years and never knew which one really came first (though for me i do think the anxiety came first…) the thing is, they’re all connected with our thoughts. anxiety and depression (if not biochemical) often derive from the way we think about things so it’s not surprising that they often go hand in hand. good luck to you.
