Why doe’s the doctors tell you to excersise to help with your anxiety and panic attacks?
i never excersise before i got this disorder and was great all the time. now that i suffer from anxiety and always anxious alot and have panic attacks why do i got to excersise for? and i just got done excersiing just a min ago and im tired and sore like heavy arms and legs and they shake a little now why is this?
Many of the previous answers are right… exercising releases endorphins which give you positive energy and make you feel happy, but this is a generalization. If the root of the anxiety isn’t dealt with simultaneously, exercise is only a temporary fix and wears off with time.

keep it up. it gets the blood flowing and the endorphins coming out which really help with your mood.

what happens when you exercise is you are releasing the endorphens that make your body "happy and calm". i know exercising can suck the life out of ya. but it does help. it is a big release. trust me been there done that. try no caffeine and relaxation too. you can do stretches and other things. i dont know if you would want to do yoga but that helps, or even karate. good luck

Well exercise releases endorphins into your brain which make your feel energized (adrenalin) and also a healthy body in general functions more efficiently and having a healthy body usually means you have a healthy mind.
And if you feel crappy at first it’s probably cause your outta shape, just give it a few weeks and don’t overwork yourself keep it easy. Whenever I come back to working out after a hiatus I just start walking an hour a day for a few weeks before I’m up to going back to the gym.

Doctors automatically believe that exercise produces more Serotonin (the feel good chemical in the brain) and this aids in a calming effect, also they say it helps to burn off surplus adrenalin.
BUT as a sufferer for 11 years i can say it’s not always so.
Anxiety can also be accompanied by complete fatigue and exercise can totally zap you and make you feel worse.
I cycled 5 miles every other day for nearly a year and i wondered why i felt like crap all the time, then i figured that every time i exercise i’m upsetting the fine chemical balance in my brain and for me personally that’s why i felt totally awfull, since i have stopped exercise my anxiety has improved a lot, i guess i’m just letting the waters be still and healing.

We are all different. Yoga may be more suitable or just some gentle walking and meditation in fact sleep is one of the best healers if u can get it. As it’s 3.12am u can figure that i still don’t. IF exercise in the long run is ok for you then i would say start it slowly and do a little bit each time, you probably went overboard first time out.

Yes, it’s very good for your mood and helps to calm down your anxiety. It’s normal to have uncomfortable sensations the first times. The more you do it the better it will be.
Eating well is also important to help your anxiety but also, help from a counselor is usually necessary.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called "St John’s Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

My doctor told me the same thing when I used to suffer from anxiety and panic attacks.
I didn’t really understand it then, but do now.
The symptoms of heavy exercise are similar to when you have high anxiety and panic attacks (ie. your heart beats faster). So the idea is that your body becomes more used to these symptoms and will not be as afraid of them when you experience them from anxiety attacks. Also, it tricks your body into knowing that you will return back to normal shortly (like after exercise) and you won’t be as afraid of having an anxiety attack.
Anxiety is caused by fear, so if you are no longer afraid you will have less chance of having an attack.
