Do you know of any hotlines that are free for people who suffer with anxiety/panic attacks?
Are there any free hotlines that you can call if you suffer anxiety/panic attacks? How effective are they with helping people overcome and conquer the fear of having attacks? Do the people benefit and learn ways to deal with them through breathing exercises instead of using medication?
Yes! NAMI (the National Association for the Mentally Ill) has something they call The Warm Line. It is not staffed by professionals, but other sufferers of anxiety/depression/etc. It has proven invaluable to me. Also, do not take meds. They are all addictive, even antidepressants. You will be sorry if you start them, I am. What you want to do instead is research the subject a little. I bought a book called, I think, "Depression Free Naturally" which also discusses anxiety quite a lot. One good solution to panic attacks are large doses of a B vitamin called Inositol. Also, you can take the amino acids l-tyrptophan and GABA. Look up NAMI in your phone book to get the number. Also, they have many support group meetings.

I suffer from panic also. I sometimes have it so bad that I cannot drive myself anywhere. In line at a store, I sometimes feel like really panicky especially if I feel stuck there and can’t get out of line, like at McDonald’s drive thru or something. It can really control your life. I am on meds but I can’t see that they help (Clonazepam). I don’t know of any hotlines, but there was a website that had a support group that I joined once but honestly it didn’t help me much. Unless you have ever had this illness then you never understand it. People just think you’re blowing things out of proportion or something or that you’re crazy. If I can help at all you can email me at pricedropper@yahoo.com.
