What do doctors ask/do when you go in for anxiety attacks?
I’ve been having anxiety attacks, and I just wanted to know what they would do if I went in to the doctors. Would they just ask questions? Would they have to touch me at all or anything? I’m just wondering cause I have scars and stuff on my wrist cause of stupidity and such, and I would be going to the doctor with my father, and he doesn’t know about that stuff and everything. So what exactly do they do when you go in for that?

My first anxiety attack, I thought I was having a heart attack. I lost my breath, I kept thinking my heart was stopping, my arm went numb and I freaked out. I went to the ER that night. They gave me an EKG, and a Chest X-Ray to rule out heart problems or lung or chest problems. They also did a GERD test to make sure my chest pains were not from heartburn. When I continued to have chest pains on a regular basis after that along with panic attacks I went back to the doctor. He thought I had inflamation in my chest wall and gave me an NSAID. I continued to have panic attacks and chest pains and after a series of blood tests and another ER visit, a doctor finally diagnosed me with severe anxiety disorder. So long story short…most people find out after a long series of test to rule out other things. If you are sure it’s anxiety, you can tell your doctor straight up front and maybe there is a shortened version of tests to go through. Having attacks suck, good luck.
